Personally I'd consider this on the very outer edge of what I'd be willing to call a translation, but everyone's idea of the boundary between translation and adaptation is different, and I recognize mine might stretch farther than most people's. And it is very different! I'm going to edit the post – I think you're right that it's better to call an adaptation, to avoid misleading folks who can't read the original. (Personally, my German is only barely good enough to read the original, honestly.)

I've seen attempts at a more "literal" translation before, but "whomwolf" unfortunately just isn't very funny.
