Currently working on a brief assignment, i.e., an assignment to write a brief - the brief itself, at twelve pages, is not exactly brief. It's also due tomorrow evening. (Someday I will resist the temptation to make a pun; that day is not today.) I'm of course being very responsible right now and certainly not writing a meta post for [community profile] elphrona_outpost, and this statement is definitely not a lie....

I decided to sign up for the 2021 [community profile] maythe4thbewithyou fic exchange.
I was initially reluctant, but the minimum word count is only 500 words, and I wrote that much in a day earlier this week filling a prompt over at Elphrona, so I'm confident I'll be able to meet the minimum, at least. I had a great time with this exchange last year, so I'm looking forward to participating again!

I have a sneaking suspicion I may be unmatchable as a recipient - I basically only requested characters from the first class at the Yavin IV Praxeum, and that's not a very popular corner of SW fandom right now. (One of the relationships I requested was "Luke Skywalker & Kam Solusar" - there's currently exactly one fic with that tag on AO3, and it's my ridiculous dreidel fic for Festival of Lights Fest. Another relationship I requested was "Luke Skywalker/Kam Solusar", which has a whopping zero fics on AO3. In comparison, there are twelve fics for "Jar Jar Binks/Sheev Palpatine".) I'm not sure what happens to unmatchable recipients - do their letters get sent out as initial pinch hits? I was broader in my offers, enough that I'd be surprised not to get matched there, but I just really want more fic for Kam, Tionne, and Cilghal to exist. (I know, I know...I should write it myself! I'm working on it.)

I made a post last week encouraging folks to donate blood, and today I discovered yet another reason to do so - every unit of blood gets tested for Covid antibodies, and then they mail you the result (or at least New York Blood Center does). So I now know I have not had Covid without knowing it. Not totally sure if that's a good or a bad thing - good, I think, since it means I can't have infected anybody. I'm eligible for a vaccine now in New York, but I'm still on the hunt for an appointment, and I expect that will take a while.

The Internship Hunt continues!
One place I'd applied to has evidently decided not to hire me. I say "evidently" because it's their policy - as they told me at the second-round interview - only to notify folks they are hiring, not those they aren't, so if I didn't hear from them within two weeks, it meant they hadn't picked me. I can understand that policy applying to applicants who've only submitted resumes, not yet been interviewed; but after two rounds of interviews, would it have killed them to send a quick email? (A couple other places I'd applied to sent me rejection emails even though they never even offered me an interview - not something I'd expected to be grateful for, but I really am.) Anyway, I had an interview on Tuesday with another office where I'd actually prefer to work, and I'm feeling pretty good about it. *knocks on wood* They only do one round of interviews, and they said I'll be hearing from them early next week.

Good luck with the brief and internship hunting!

If no one is available to write for you, you become an initial pinch hit.

That's neat about the blood testing.

That's very cool.
