And That's That!
May. 13th, 2021 04:00 pmIt’s official – as of Tuesday, I’m done with my first year of law school! It’s been a wild ride, and there were definitely rough patches, but I enjoyed my classes, and I’ve learned so much.
Now I have a couple days of respite (well, except for packing up my things for storage) before the writing competition for journal membership starts on Saturday. Then I’m flying back to California on Wednesday to start my internship. Between that and the research assistant work I’m doing for a professor, it’s going to be a very busy summer – but I’m really excited nevertheless!
I was finally able to sort out housing for the summer, and score one for inter-school collegiality – I’ll be staying in the student housing of a law school out there. (Back there? It’s funny how, even though I’m from CA, that expansionist "out West/back East" framework is so deeply ingrained.) I’m hoping this year’s fire season won’t be too bad. Unfortunately, I’m almost positive I’m hoping in vain.
I’ve been debating whether or not to sign up for Interlibrary Exchange, and I’m pretty sure I’m not going to. As cool as it sounds – and as much fun as I’ve had writing for fests and exchanges this year – I want to use the summer to work on an idea for a longer fic I’ve been thinking about for a while. (I also really, really need to finish the second chapter of "Screwtape on Maedhros"!)
I already talked a bit about this year’s
maythe4thbewithyou exchange - including the amazing gifts (yes, "gifts" plural!)
atamascolily wrote for me. I had a really good experience participating in the exchange this year. Comparing my fic for this year’s exchange with the fics I wrote for MayThe4th last year, I feel like I’ve really grown as a writer, and I think I’m equipped to tackle the projects I have in mind in a way I wasn’t a year ago. So that’s definitely a good feeling!
