Dear Yuletide Author
Oct. 16th, 2021 11:19 pmI am so, so excited to see what you create!
I am
Ermingarden on AO3 as well.
General Likes and DNWs
I’m a big fan of slice-of-life fic, meandering conversations, unconventional families and families of choice, monks, music, humor, linguistics, complicated relationships with religion...so many things, really! I also like hurt-comfort, as long as there’s at least a little comfort at the end. As genres/framing devices, I love epistolary fic, outsider POV, and pastiche. I also have a soft spot for holiday fic, so please feel free to explore any and all winter holidays that fit with the setting!
If you want to do a crossover or fusion, go ahead, provided the other canon is something I'm also familiar with.
DNW: explicit sex scenes, BDSM, non-canonical pregnancy or parenthood fic, omegaverse, and especially anything sexual involving children.
Templar Knight Mysteries
Found family, complex relationships with religion, and engaging mysteries, all in an impeccable medieval setting – it's as if Ash were writing with me in mind! (I talked a little more here about why I love these books so much.) I absolutely adore this series, and I'd love just about anything in this fandom!
I'd be happy with Bascot and Gianni together, or just Bascot, or just Gianni.
I have a few prompts if you feel in need of somewhere to start, but they are totally optional and you should feel free to ignore them if you have another idea you'd rather write!
As a theme, I'm interested in the role religion plays in the characters' lives, especially Bascot's difficult relationship with the Church in the earlier novels. I'd love to see a fic exploring what would have happened if Bascot had chosen to leave the Templar Order after all.
An elaboration on events occurring pre-canon – Bascot's captivity, say, or Gianni's frankly horrific childhood and his early days with Bascot – would also be very welcome. (If you do choose to go pre-canon with Gianni, I know there are implications of sexual assault; I'm okay with the theme featuring in the fic as an exception to my general DNWs, as long as it's not depicted in detail.)
Gianni's relationship with the art of writing and his training as a clerk is another element of the story that I really love.
This is a little bit more of a specific prompt, but perhaps something about Bascot dealing with his chronic pain – and maybe how Gianni helps him on an especially difficult day?
And, of course, fluff, especially holiday fluff! (Snowball fight, anyone?) All the fluff is always greatly appreciated for these two.
Also, on the off chance that you happen to be a fan of The Old Guard, Templar Knight Mysteries seems ripe for a crossover – if that's something that intrigues you, I'd be up for that! (I discussed this in more detail on the "Two for One" mini-challenge post in
yuletide here.)
Fandom-specific DNW: any romantic or sexual relationship between Bascot and Gianni, even if the fic is set when Gianni is an adult.
The Glass Bead Game
The world of The Glass Bead Game absolutely fascinates me! I have so many questions, though anything you're personally interested in exploring would be welcome, too, so please take all of my prompts as totally optional!
How did the Game itself develop? What was it like in its heyday?
Who were the authors of Knecht's biography? Why did they decide to take on this project? When they finished the book, how was it received?
I'd also love to see some more detail – or different perspectives – on being a student in Castalia, at any stage of one's education. I'm equally happy with canon characters or OCs – however you prefer to explore the world!
Klara and the Sun
My wish list for this fandom really boils down to one thing: more Klara! Klara is definitely one of the most compelling and lovable characters in any book I have ever read. She's just so good - and she always sees straight to the heart of things, even when she doesn't understand the particulars. (I talked a little more here about why I love this book so much.)
I'd love to see more about any point in Klara's life: in the store, after the main events of the novel, or even a new life after the end of the novel entirely...whatever inspires you!
I'm fascinated especially by her relationship with/devotion to the Sun; how does the Sun feel (if he feels at all) about Klara?
