In light of the current widespread discussion of the upcoming Amazon show, I'll just reiterate what I said on Tumblr back in 2017:

All I want from the silmarillion tv show is for episode 1 to begin with a shot of Maedhros hanging on the cliff and then

*freeze frame*

Interestingly, I mostly get sent tumblr links, I have seen...two people talk about it on DW.

I'd say Maedhros needs a break, but she had that for 30 years up on that cliff and that didn't do her any favours.

I've mostly been seeing the discussion on Tumblr as well, though I imagine there are a lot of people currently composing longer, more thoughtful responses they'll be putting up on DW before too long.

Personally, I'm probably not going to watch the show – not as a moral stance, I just don't watch much TV – so I have very little stake in the whole thing and am just rubbernecking the drama.

I don't really do tumblr (I even gave up on RSS), so my perception there has been somewhat coloured by the friends who send me links and have certain Opinions. XD

I'm probably going to watch it, I pay for prime anyway and don't use the video option enough as it is. But I'll probably divorce it from the books and movies in my head, as that way probably lies madness otherwise.

It IS a good start for a show though! Especially because Maedhros would be so Done with all that nonsense.

Amazon should hire me as a screenwriter and make The Sitcomarillion instead, which would have approximately the same relationship to Tolkien as Monty Python and the Holy Grail has to Thomas Malory.

As I was saying to chestnut_pod above, my ideal TV Silm would have the same relationship with Tolkien that Monty Python and the Holy Grail does with Thomas Malory. What cannot be imitated must be parodied.
